...been some time. hoping each of you and your families are getting along well during these strange times. without adding to your heaps my life has been in struggle mode for me as of late. one thing about times like these though is the tiniest sliver of daylight can recapture our zest for things that nourish us.
...such is this case with this version of the givegoods' "there's still some life in the old girl yet." the givegoods are a super group by my calculations with the likes of Tom Morgan (sneeze/SMUDGE) and Evan Dando (Lemonheads). Evan is largely on BASS on this affair.
...i have felt almost normal the last few days and today i knew there were some "near finished" songs rolling around in the machine and so it felt really superb getting back at it. like myself some gear needed some encouragement to work right but all is well. did my best fonzie or han solo and tapped on my ANALOG Tube Compressor to light it up.
...added a new fender xii solo and some extra backup voices to the mix today. this tune was built in largely over 3 sessions. Chris "SHRIMP" Callahan brought this little beat machine the size of a credit card and he crafted this "click beat" and cut vocals and guitars and laid this uber-menacing BASS part on it as well on a first full pass. oh yeah!
...fast forward to jofo coming by to visit and depositing these mighty fierce drums into 2 mics. jofo and i sang some back ups in the fade while chris proceeds to empty the can of his solo from the bottom, killer. (made me smile hearing it again)
...seriously meant so very much to hear my chums playing so big here and i got to sing along with them.
"there's still some life in the old kish yet" (let me scare up some wood to knock on)
sound as ever,
