about

linear notes from homespun, over no coffee ~

...a few days ago Emitt Rhodes passed away. it's hard to imagine a guy's first album having any bigger promises made along with it what with all it's big studio production and the use of phil spector's 'Wrecking Crew" etc.

...so it would seem to be career suicide to acquire an AMPEX 4 Track tape recorder and move into your parents garage to craft albums but not by my standards. Emitt went on to make 3 great self/made albums before slipping away into obscurity.

...i own his first album on Import Vinyl (PROBE) and in the runoff wax of the record he has etched "Record At Home" as the label wouldn't let him declare this. a prized possession around this house.

...i owe so much to Emitt for making records fully on his own terms and using nobody else to mask his weaknesses. in his words his works were "entirely his own"

...lastly, i chose this tune as i first heard it in Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums" film. a fan was built right then and there...

...god bless Emitt.
